♟️ About Zila Shatranz Sangh

Zila Shatranz Sangh, Bhilwara, also referred to as the District Chess Association, Bhilwara, is the district-level chess organization serving Bhilwara, Rajasthan, India. It organizes and supports FIDE-rated tournaments and works within the Rajasthan chess structure, with its major events conducted under the aegis of the Rajasthan Chess Association and All India Chess Federation. Tournament organization is the association’s strongest area of activity. Bhilwara has developed a regular program of classical and rapid rated chess, including the Bhilwara International Open series and other district and state-level competitions. In April 2026, the association also worked with Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Hurda to stage the 1st LNJ Bhilwara International FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament, which offered ₹200,000 in prizes. The association’s current leadership includes Arun Kumar Singh Chauhan as President and Ajay Kumar Gupta as Secretary. Gupta is particularly active in tournament operations and serves as Tournament Director of the 2026 Bhilwara International Open. He is therefore the most appropriate primary public Contact Person for the organization.

🏆 Bhilwara International Open

The Bhilwara International Open has become the association’s principal recurring tournament. The first major edition in 2024 offered a ₹600,000 prize fund. It was followed by the 2nd Bhilwara International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in December 2025, which attracted 248 players and offered ₹700,000 in prizes. This continuity has helped establish Bhilwara as a regular destination for rated chess in Rajasthan.

🌍 Bhilwara Chess Festival 2026

The association expands the event considerably in 2026 with the Bhilwara Chess Festival, scheduled for December 25–30, 2026 at Sri Mahesh Vatika in Bhilwara. The festival combines the 3rd Bhilwara International Open FIDE Classical Rating Chess Tournament with the 1st Bhilwara International Open FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament. The combined published prize fund is ₹951,000, with more than 350 cash prizes and trophies across the two competitions. The classical tournament consists of nine rounds at 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move, while the rapid tournament uses 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move. Chess-Results confirms Ajay Kumar Gupta as Tournament Director.

🌱 Local and Youth Chess

Zila Shatranz Sangh also supports the broader development of chess in the Bhilwara district. Its tournament programs include extensive age-group categories for boys and girls, opportunities for unrated and developing players, veteran categories, and prizes specifically for local Bhilwara competitors. The 2026 festival includes separate categories from U7 through U15, reflecting the organization’s continuing emphasis on junior participation. The association also works with schools and other local organizations to bring rated events to different parts of the district. The 2026 rapid tournament at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya in Hurda is one example of this cooperation.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Arun Kumar Singh Chauhan is the current President of the District Chess Association, Bhilwara. Ajay Kumar Gupta serves as Secretary and is one of the organization’s most active tournament officials.
