The Hennefer ELO-Sommer-Open 2026 was held from August 21–23, 2026 at Meys Fabrik under the patronage of Hennef Mayor Mario Dahm. The club’s tournament program continues shortly afterward with the Manfred-Bosbach-Turnier 2026, whose first round is scheduled for September 4, 2026.

📜 History and Development

SV Hennef has represented organized chess in Hennef since 1927. Over the decades, the club has built a program that combines traditional club competition with regional team chess and tournaments open to players from outside the association. The club today has a sizeable playing base. Current regional federation records list approximately 80 active members, with players ranging from juniors and recreational competitors to experienced tournament players. A notable part of the club’s development has been its expansion of regular tournament activity. In addition to internal championships, SV Hennef now hosts one of its largest annual events in the form of the Hennefer ELO-Sommer-Open, while monthly rapid and blitz competitions keep competitive chess active throughout the season.

♜ Team and Club Chess

SV Hennef fields several teams in regional league competition. During the 2025–2026 season, its first team competed in the Verbandsliga Süd, while additional teams played in Bonn/Rhein-Sieg district leagues and classes. Club members also compete in the annual Vereinsmeisterschaft. The 2025–2026 championship ran from September 2025 through January 2026 and used a five-round Swiss system. In addition, the club organized separate blitz and rapid series throughout the 2025–2026 season. The blitz calendar included ten tournaments from September through July, while the rapid series featured nine events. Guido Schott led the final blitz standings, while Martin Seidel finished first in the rapid series.

🎓 Youth Chess and Training

Youth chess is an established part of SV Hennef’s structure. Martin Seidel serves as Youth Director, and the club provides dedicated junior activities alongside its adult program. Regular youth chess takes place on Wednesdays from 5:00 PM, followed by the general club evening from 7:00 PM. The youth section includes tournament opportunities, beginner instruction, and participation in the regional Formel 1 youth tournament circuit. The club also works within the wider Schachjugend Bonn/Rhein-Sieg structure. Consequently, young players can progress from introductory chess and local events into regional individual and team competitions.

🏆 Hennefer ELO-Sommer-Open

The Hennefer ELO-Sommer-Open is SV Hennef’s flagship open tournament. The 2026 edition took place from August 21–23 at Meys Fabrik, Beethovenstraße 21, Hennef. The tournament consisted of five rounds of accelerated Swiss-system chess. Players received 105 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move for the entire game. Results counted for both FIDE Elo and DWZ, and the tournament had a maximum capacity of 140 players. The club offered an extensive prize structure. The published first prize was originally €500, but the organizer later increased the main prize to €600 and expanded the number of rating and category prizes after registrations exceeded expectations. The final standings were headed by Oscar Vranckx of Schachfreunde Mainz, who scored 4.5/5 and finished ahead of Fabian Schlottmann on the tournament tiebreak. Several FIDE-titled players competed, including IMs, FMs, a WFM, and a CM. The tournament again operated under the patronage of Hennef Mayor Mario Dahm. Tournament organization was handled by Fred Baumgarten and Guido Schott, with SV Hennef responsible for the event.
