Schach-Club Kreuzberg

Schach-Club Kreuzberg e.V. is a historic Berlin chess organizer and one of the best-known clubs in German chess. The club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2024, which places its foundation in 1949. It operates from the Haus des Sports in Kreuzberg and remains a very visible part of the city’s chess scene.

The club combines strong tournament work with broad member activity. Its official club page describes it as Berlin’s largest chess club and says it fields nine teams, including one in the Oberliga. In addition, it runs regular club evenings, youth sessions, beginner training, and open events such as the Werner-Ott-Open, class tournaments, and monthly blitz, rapid, and Chess960 competitions.

The public leadership structure is also clear. The official imprint names Brigitte Große-Honebrink as first chairwoman, alongside Georg Adelberger and Michael Steiger on the board. For organizer-profile purposes, Brigitte Große-Honebrink is the strongest main contact person because she is the club’s legally authorized first chair and a clear public-facing representative.
