About Accademia Scacchistica Romana
Accademia Scacchistica Romana is a historic chess organizer in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1819, it is widely known as the oldest chess club in Italy. For more than two centuries, it has promoted chess culture, tournament activity, and structured club life in the capital.
The club runs a broad and active program. It organizes rated tournaments, club competitions, training, and teaching projects. It also supports beginners, improving players, and school activity. As a result, Accademia Scacchistica Romana combines tradition with everyday practical chess work.
The club also holds an important place in Italian chess history. It celebrated its bicentenary in 2019 and continues to present itself as a living part of Rome’s chess identity. At the same time, it remains active in modern competition and education. Therefore, it is not only a historic institution. It is also a current and visible chess organizer.
The leadership structure is clear. Bruno Roberti serves as president in the 2025–2027 board. He stands out as the strongest public-facing figure for organizer communication. In addition, Federico Cenci, Carlo Mola, and Crisanto Crisanti hold key roles in management and teaching. This structure gives the club both continuity and operational depth.
