Sundsvall Open 2026
Returning as one of northern Sweden’s most established New Year events, the Sundsvall Open 2026, held from 2-4 January 2026 in Sundsvall, Sweden, brings together a large field of players for an exciting 8-round FIDE-rated competition. Organized by Sundsvalls Schacksällskap in cooperation with the Västernorrlands Chess Federation, this hybrid-time-control tournament features rapid rounds on the first day followed by classical rounds during the weekend.
Hosted at Comfort Hotel Sundsvall in the city center, the event offers excellent accessibility with walking distance to train and bus stations, special hotel prices, and strong playing conditions. With guaranteed prizes for 50 participants and a rich set of ratings and special awards, Sundsvall Open remains a classic Scandinavian chess tradition.
