The Sardinia World Chess Festival 2025 is set to be a premier international chess event, bringing together grandmasters, emerging talents, and enthusiasts from around the globe. Hosted in the picturesque town of Orosei, Sardinia, the festival offers a unique blend of high-level competition and Mediterranean hospitality.​

♟️ Dates of the Event

The festival will take place from April 26 to May 3, 2025. 👉 Due to national guidelines following the passing of the Holy Father, the organizers have rescheduled the first round to April 27 at 09:30 AM and will start the second round at approximately 04:00 PM on the same day.

🏆 Time Control

Organizers will run all tournaments (Open A, B, and C) over 9 rounds using the Swiss system. The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the remainder of the game, with a 30-second increment per move starting from move one.

🏆 Number of Rounds

Each tournament (Open A, B, and C) will consist of 9 rounds, following the Swiss pairing system.​

Organizers will distribute a total prize fund of €50,100 across the tournaments. They will award prizes in various categories, including overall standings, women’s section, rating groups, juniors (Under 18), and veterans (Over 65). 🏆 Registration and Participation Information

Registrations must be completed online through the official registration portal by March 31, 2025. Participation is open to players with a valid FIDE ID. Foreign players without a FIDE rating must provide proof of their national ratings. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to accept up to 10 wild cards per open for players with insufficient ELO. ​
