The Sapporo Sakura Chess Open uses a 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment time control from move one and runs over 5 rounds. In addition, the tournament follows a Swiss system and counts for both FIDE Standard and JCF Standard rating.

Tie-breaks follow this order: Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, and performance rating. A forced pairing bye counts as a win with 1 point. Requested byes count as half a point when players declare them before the pairing of the previous round, except on the final day. A player absent at the start of Round 1 may receive a half-point bye at the organizer’s discretion.

🧾 Other

Players must complete their scoresheets until the end of the game. In addition, mobile phones and electronic devices must remain switched off throughout the event. If a device makes a sound, is used, or is handled during the game, the player loses the game. Electronic devices are also prohibited inside the playing venue outside game time.

The organizer may adjust the schedule depending on tournament progress.
