Chess Club of Rhodes “Ippotis” is a chess club and organizer based in Rhodes, Greece. The club entered the Greek Chess Federation register on November 10, 2008. It later established its headquarters at Pindou 1 in central Rhodes and has used the Ali Hilmi Pasha Mosque building since the summer of 2011. Daily lessons run at the club base, which gives players a stable place for training and over-the-board play. At the same time, Ippotis has worked beyond one single venue. Its training structure has also included sections in areas such as Ialyssos, Kremasti, Archangelos, and at times Afantou. For players on Rhodes, that local spread matters. It means the club is not limited to a narrow city-center group. Instead, it serves a broader island chess community with regular activity and a visible physical presence.

🏆 Competitions and Events

Competitive chess sits at the heart of Ippotis. The club runs a steady calendar that covers youth, school, and open competition. Its archive goes back to the 1st Rhodes Open in 2009, which shows that tournament work has been part of its profile for many years. More recently, the club organized the Dodecanese Individual School Championship 2026 and the Dodecanese Team School Championship 2026. It also continued its 12th Grand Prix 2025–26 for youth sections, with multiple rapid events held at the club’s home venue. The fourth event in that series drew about 40 young players from several parts of Rhodes. In addition, the club’s contact page notes regular Saturday blitz sessions for adults and children. Ippotis is also active in national team chess. The Greek federation listed ASSO Rhodes “Ippotis” among the teams in the 52nd Greek Team Championship A Division in 2025. For chess players, that mix is important. The club does not focus on only one format or one age group. It works across the full competitive ladder.

🌱 Training and Community Chess

Ippotis also places strong emphasis on chess education. Its training program includes sections for beginners, stronger juniors, and adults, with levels such as Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3. The club has stated clearly that these events help children learn rapid chess, understand FIDE rules, and become comfortable with real tournament procedure. That practical teaching role gives the organizer real value for families and new players. Beyond weekly lessons, the club also connects chess with formal education. In 2023, Ippotis announced a cooperation agreement with the University of the Aegean through its lifelong learning center for the program “Chess in Primary Education.” That project aimed to help teachers use chess in school settings and to expand the educational reach of the game. Meanwhile, the club remains publicly active and organized. In January 2026, it published the board elected for 2026–2028, with Stamatios Dimitrios Karavas as president. For players, this creates a clear picture. Ippotis is not just an event label. It is a year-round chess structure that combines lessons, junior development, school activity, and serious competition in one place.
