Kaltern-Trophy 2025 – International Chess Open (8th Edition)
Nestled among vineyards and framed by the Dolomites, the Kaltern-Trophy 2025 welcomes chess players from across Europe to a weekend of strategy, culture, and competition in northern Italy. This FIDE-rated international chess open takes place from October 17 – 19, 2025 in the picturesque town of Kaltern / Caldaro, South Tyrol.
Organized by Amateurschachklub J. Richter / LASK Bozen with support from the Kaltern Chess Club, the event is known for its warm hospitality, professional organization, and scenic Alpine setting. With three rating groups, classical time control, and a friendly yet competitive atmosphere, the Kaltern-Trophy offers players of all levels an unforgettable chess experience.

Time Control & Pairings
⏱️ 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move from move one.
Pairings follow FIDE and FSI regulations.
Players may receive one half-point bye if unpaired once.
Electronic devices are prohibited in the playing hall.

- €50 for Seniors (60+), Women, and Juniors (U16)
- €30 for players rated above 2300

The tournament is held at Vereinshaus Kaltern, a spacious and well-equipped venue in Kaltern’s historic center. The hall offers excellent lighting, comfortable tables, and a quiet atmosphere for classical chess. Cafés, restaurants, and shops are nearby; parking is available close to the venue (free on Sunday).

🚆 By Train:
Nearest station is Bolzano (Bozen) on the Innsbruck–Verona main line. From Bolzano, take bus 131 or a taxi (~20 min to Kaltern).
🚌 By Bus:
Frequent buses connect Bolzano with Kaltern (lines 131 & 132). The main stop “Kaltern Bahnhofstraße” is a few minutes’ walk from the playing hall.
🚗 By Car:
From the A22 Brenner Motorway take the Appiano / Eppan exit (“Bolzano Sud”), then follow signs to Kaltern (~15 km). Paid parking is available near Vereinshaus Kaltern and free on Sunday.
