The Jihlava Open 2025 invites chess players from around the world to compete in the heart of the Czech Republic. Set in the historic city of Jihlava, this week-long chess festival offers multiple tournament formats including classical, rapid, blitz, and duo blitz. Players of all ages and levels will enjoy a dynamic chess atmosphere alongside cultural experiences in one of the country’s oldest towns. July 11, 2025 – Freestyle Chess Tournament (Group F)
July 12, 2025 – Junior U23 Rapid Tournament (Group E)
All events start at 10:00 AM local time.
⏱️ Time Control & Format
Group A (Classical): 9 rounds, 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with 30-second increments
Group B (Rapid): 9 rounds, 15 minutes per player + 10-second increment
Group C (Blitz): 11 rounds, 5 minutes per player + 3-second increment
Group D (Duo Blitz): 7 rounds, 5 minutes per player + 3-second increment per move (team format)
Group E (U23 Rapid): 9 rounds, 15 minutes + 10-second increment
Group F (Freestyle): Format and time control to be announced
All tournaments follow the Swiss pairing system and FIDE rapid/blitz/classical rules where applicable.
🏆 Prize Fund & Awards
Organizers will distribute a total prize fund of €10,000 across all tournaments.
Top finishers in each group will earn cash prizes, trophies, and medals.
Organizers will also recognize the best female players, juniors, seniors, and top scorers in each rating category.
