“The most prestigious chess tournament held in Austria in the 21st century” – that’s how the World Chess Federation (FIDE) described the “GRAND PRIX” at PlusCity, part of the upcoming Chess Tournament Grand Prix 2025!
Last year, more than 750 players from 28 countries competed in a staggering 8,730 Blitz and Rapid Chess games during the Chess Tournament Grand Prix 2025. They were battling for both the prize fund and the coveted title of Austrian Team Rapid Chess Champion.

1) FINAL DETAILS FOR ALL PLAYERS
The organizer will provide all information and details on this website. We will communicate all changes and updates online. We will primarily use Instagram @chess_grandprix to share any last-minute changes from May 23rd onward related to the Chess Tournament Grand Prix 2025.
2) RESTRICTIONS AT THE VENUE
On Friday and Saturday the tournament takes place in the open shopping mall PlusCity (www.pluscity.at). It intends to promote chess in public during the Chess Tournament Grand Prix 2025.
The shopping mall closes on Thursday and Sunday (restaurants remain open, and free parking and toilets are available).
As a result, we expect a large number of spectators and numerous media representatives. This means the noise level will be significantly higher than usual. By registering, all participants explicitly acknowledge and accept these conditions. Also, the organizer reserves the right to limit the number of participants.
3) DATA PROTECTION NOTICE
The organizer will pass on the participants’ results to FIDE/ACF as instructed.
Furthermore, personal data may be published on the internet and in other media. This is to fulfill the statutory purpose of the ACF to protect, disseminate, and promote chess in Austria. This concerns, in particular, the name, the club, the nationality, and all results. Rights to image and video recordings belong to the organizer. GDPR: see the ACF data protection declaration at www.chess.at
4) ENTRY FEE AND PRIZES
The Upper Austrian Chess Association will collect the entry fee directly or through authorized representatives. For administrative reasons, the Österreichischer Schachförderverein (ÖSFV) will securely process the fee through its bank account on behalf of the association.
Organizers will distribute the prize money in cash immediately following the award ceremony at the Chess Tournament Grand Prix 2025.
During the iPhone drawing, organizers will randomly select a winner from all present players on May 29th and May 30th, 2025. If the selected player is not present, they will repeat the process until a winner is confirmed. This drawing is final and not subject to legal challenge.
For category prizes, only Elo ratings (FIDE and ÖSB) valid as of May 1st, 2025, will apply.
5) MOBILE PHONES
Players may carry a mobile phone during the Chess Tournament Grand Prix 2025 as long as they switch it off completely. Additionally, we encourage players to check their pairings online at www.chess-results.com during scheduled breaks. However, players must consult an arbiter and obtain permission before leaving the board during a game.
6) GENERAL PROVISIONS
All relevant norms of Austrian law, the house rules of PlusCity, and the tournament and competition regulations of FIDE and the ACF apply. The tournament language is English.
