University of Gdańsk is a major public university in Gdańsk and one of the leading academic institutions in northern Poland. Founded in 1970, it has grown into the largest university in the Pomeranian region. The university teaches more than 25,000 students and operates across Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia.
The institution also has a visible role in academic chess and university sport. Its official chess pages show direct involvement in events such as the International Chess Tournament for the 55th Anniversary Cup of the University of Gdańsk and the festival In Mari Victoria Tua. That gives the university a real organizer profile in addition to its broader academic mission.
For chess-specific operations, the strongest named contact in current official materials is Kacper Wiśniewski, who is listed as tournament director and chairman of the organizing committee. At the institutional level, Piotr Stepnowski serves as rector. This combination gives the organizer both strong university backing and a clear event-facing contact structure.
