Koninklijke Nederlandse Schaakbond

The Koninklijke Nederlandse Schaakbond (KNSB), or Royal Dutch Chess Federation, serves as the official governing body for chess in the Netherlands. Established in 1873, it stands as one of the nation’s oldest sports federations.

Headquartered in Haarlem, the KNSB is affiliated with both the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and the European Chess Union (ECU). Its mission encompasses promoting chess across all age groups and skill levels, supporting clubs, schools, and tournament organizers throughout the country.

The federation organizes national events such as the Dutch Chess Championship and the KNSB League, the premier team competition in the Netherlands. Additionally, it offers educational resources, rating systems, and tools like the KNSB Rating Viewer app to assist players in tracking their progress.

Through its initiatives, the KNSB fosters a vibrant chess community, nurturing talent and promoting the game’s development across the Netherlands.
