Founded in September 2007, the Échiquier du Pays de Liffré has established itself as one of the most dynamic and welcoming chess clubs in Brittany. Located in Liffré, just northeast of Rennes, the club boasts over 100 members, with a strong emphasis on youth development—65% of its members are young players.
The club offers a comprehensive chess school catering to both beginners and advanced players. The curriculum is structured into small groups of up to 10 students, ensuring personalized instruction. Led by experienced trainers, including Grandmaster Pierre Bailet, the program covers tactics, strategy, endgames, and competitive preparation.
Beyond education, the Échiquier du Pays de Liffré is renowned for organizing major chess events, such as the annual Open International de Liffré in October and the Rapide de Liffré in June. These tournaments attract players from across France and Europe, offering high-quality competition in a friendly atmosphere.
