Chess Club Brda was founded in November 2006 by a group of players led by Tihomir Bužančić, aiming to revitalize the chess scene in Split. The club quickly rose through the ranks, achieving consecutive promotions from the 4th League in 2007 to the prestigious 1A League by 2011. Their greatest success came in 2015 with a 6th place finish in 1A and a win against reigning champions ŠK Zagreb.

Since 2017, Brda has competed in the 1B League, maintaining first-division status for 13 years. The club has also appeared in 12 Croatian Cup Finals, with its best result being 5th place in 2014.

Beyond league play, Brda runs a second team of enthusiasts, achieving strong results in the 2nd League South. The club is also a major tournament organizer, hosting the renowned “Split Open” for over a decade and an amateur tournament on Šolta Island since 2017.

A key pillar of the club is its Chess School, launched in 2015 by Branko Šarić. Coaches like Vladimir Cvetnić and Mateo Ivić have helped develop top young talent. In 2022, the juniors reached the 1st Croatian League, and the cadets advanced to the national finals—marking the most successful year in the club’s youth program.
