The Royal Belgian Chess Federation (Fédération Royale Belge des Échecs – FRBE / Koninklijke Belgische Schaakbond – KBSB), founded in 1920, serves as the official governing body for chess in Belgium. Headquartered at Frans Vekemansstraat 131, B-1120 Neder-Over-Heembeek, Brussels, the federation oversees national chess activities, develops local talent, and represents Belgium in international competitions. Under the leadership of President Laurent Wéry, the FRBE/KBSB actively promotes chess through various programs and events.
The federation organizes several key tournaments annually. The Belgian Chess Championship, established in 1921, determines the national champion and is a cornerstone of the country’s chess calendar. Additionally, the FRBE/KBSB supports youth and women’s championships, fostering the development of chess at all levels.
